Shournagh Farm Walk to For Dairy Farm Update and Water Quality
Conor, Alec and James Roche will host a farm walk on his farm at Gurth, Vicarstown, Co. Cork on Tuesday July 29th at 7:30pm. The event will include a dairy farm update, discussion around automated milking systems and participation in the Waters of LIFE Agri-Environment Programme Pilot.
Conor is an enterprising dairy farmer in the Waters of LIFE Shournagh sub-catchment. Expressions of interest are currently open for programme entry at www.watersoflife.ie/eoi
The event is being held with the support of Muskerry Macra na Feirme, IFA Cork and Lely Centre Mitchelstown.

Event Outline:
Stand One: Farm Performance
Conor and Alec Roche will chat about farm performance and milk quality on his holding cow performance and updates on breeding and grassland management.
Stand Two: Automated Milking
Attendees will be able to see Conor Roche’s automated milking system in action and representatives from Lely will be on hand to field questions about costs, installation and operation.
Stand Three: Agri-Environment Programme Participation on Dairy Farms
In conversation with agricultural scientist Diarmuid McSweeney, Conor Roche will outline his experience with the Waters of LIFE Programme to date including: programme entry; voluntary participation; programme independence from regulatory bodies; expected payments, habitats on the farm.
Stand Four: Supporting Actions for Water Quality
In conjunction with local agri-business suppliers, Waters of LIFE will outline supporting actions for water quality that are funded by the programme. This will include payment rates and demonstrations of equipment and infrastructure such as solar powered electric fencers; solar pumps, pasture pumps and water troughs.
Agricultural Scientists will be on hand for any farmer who would like to ask about water quality on their own farm or inquire about entry into the Waters of LIFE agri-environmental programme pilot.
